Dr. Uwawuike: Industrial Food Chain

What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?

The author of the text shows the benefits and risks of the industrial food chain. The benefit is that people eat more for less and that things are cheaper. However, the risks are that the cheap sugar contain too much calories that aren't good for them and causes them to be fat. It is stated in the text "...the calories end up being stored away in fat cells in our body...Seventeen percent of kids age six through nineteen are obese." This quote shows the risks of the industrial food chain, it puts a lot of unnecessary calories in our food for less, that is then stored as fat in our bodies that causes us to become obese. The rates of obesity has increased because of this. It is also stated in the text "HFCS was so cheap that Pepsi and Coke could have cut the price of each bottle they sold...Now Wallerstein and McDonald's had figured out a way to make them feel okay about eating more." This quote shows the benefits of the industrial food chain, it made people eat more without feeling fat or greedy, it was also cheap for buyers. Therefore, the author includes the benefits and risks of the industrial food chain.

  1. I agree with your statement but you should state why the risk outweigh the benefits
