"What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?
In the text "Omnivore's Dilemma" Micheal pollan introduces benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain. One benefit of using the industrial food chain is that people could buy more for less. In the text it states, "It is actually cheaper to eat high-calorie, fatty, processed foods than whole foods. This tells me that people who could buy a lot of food to eat just for less money and be satisfied. This is also another good benefit for the people who could barley afford some thing to eat. But there is a reason to why these cheap food are cheap and that is the risk of using the industrial food chain. In the text it states, "17% of kids age six through nineteen are obese. This is a giant public health problem, costing the health care system an estimated $90 billion a year". This tells me that even though there is a benefit using the industrial food chain, what people don't know is that the same benefit is risking their lives. Because this obese situation could lead to diabetics and diabeties have many factors including life span, blindness, and more.
