Well I really can't find a really good reason to why Pollan talks about Steer 534. But, I think the reason for this is because he saw that cow being born and in only a few months he saw it getting killed to take its meat. He also found it intresting to say that, it never got to see its dad and feels bad about it.

ReplyDeleteI think your reason doesn't really make any sense. The whole point Pollan was telling us that was not to inform us about cows life. It had to connect with the theme of corn and how cows are affected by it.
