Dr.Estevez: Industrial Farming Risks Outweigh Benefits Reflection

I believe that the negative side is more of an impact than the positives cause it's show more risks and more important than benefits. "GMO promises even higher yields than hybrid seed" this is a benefit but it isn't much if It comes at a cost of the ihumamne treatment of castles cause they are used to eating grass but they are Forced to eat corn. And to eat meat even though they are omnivore and they don't eat meat and they eat cow meat and that makes them cannabalistic. " they believe that GMOs are a reckless experiment with the natural order of things." It's just not normal for cows to live like this cause it's not normal

Dr.Lissade:Industrial Food Chain Reflection

I think the risks do outweigh the benefits of the Industrial Food Chain because one many of the risks is effecting our lives (humans) & the living things on farms. The benefits is probably only benefiting farmers and their plants. The text states" But in a CAFO they are forced to eat corn - at consider- able cost to their health, to the health of the land..." This shows that one of the risks is effecting the cows and kinda the humans because we eat the cow meat too. Also it states " This is a giant public health problem, costing the health care system.."

Dr.Dones Industrial risks vs. benefits

There are many benefits to the the industrial food chain, but the risks outweigh those benefits. The text states "The feedlots are also breeding grounds for new deadly bacteria". (49) This means that while there is a great number of cows on the feedlots, there are deadly bacteria being born which can infect the cows and eventually us humans. The text also states "But waste from the CAFO's is a huge source of very toxic pollution"(49) This quote means that while the CAFO's are raising cows for us to eat, they are also damaging the environment we live in.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘: Benefits vs. Risks

Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not?

In my state of opinion I believe that the risks of the industrial food chain outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain because it seems that for every benefit it results a risk. For example in the text, "Omnivore's Dilemma " Micheal Pollan talks about how industrial food is now cheaper for people to purchase which is well, a benefit. But this benefit is a problem. The cheaper the food is the more and more unhealthy it is. These cheap food are the reason for increase in weight in people today. Especially fast food places. Also another example in the text is about how because of CAFOS, "meat is now cheap that many of us eats it three times a day". This benefit results another risk too. The risk to this benefit is that "but the waste from CAFOS is a huge source of very toxic pollution".  Therefore the risks of the industrial food chain does outweigh the benefits because the benefits results an risk.

Dr.Gonzalez:Risks vs. benefits

Breakfast-Cereal
Lunch-nothing
Dinner-Chinese food

I think the risks out way the benefits of the industrial food chain. Now people usually eat meat three times a day. The industrial food chain causes diabetes and heart failure. The author introduces the topic that meat became so affordable that many Americans are now able to buy it every day and eat it when they want. Before eating meat used to be a special occasion in most homes but now it is a everyday thing(49).Industrial food is also bad to cows and the health of the land and to the cows themselves.

Dr.Cox Reflection

The industrial Food chain has mutiple negatives and positives. But It seems those positives do in fact our weight the negatives.Im not saying the industrial food chain is 100 percent "Good".But without it we wouldn't really now how to live our daily lives and  get through a day.Micheal Pollan brings up that corn is basically the substance that makes up eveything we eat it feeds the animals and the animals make our food or well we make them our food. But all that aside,Corn is what is technically feeding us,and the reason so because it's cheap easy to grow and we can feed it to animals. If we didn't have this way of  feeding animals with corn which is what most of the industrial  food chain is we wouldn't be as well and ready for the next day.Besides the corn, the industrial food chain allows farmers to get there jobs done in almost half the time according to " Omnivore's Dilemma" and still make the same amount of money.A farmers job is already hard and there life expectancy is lower than most working people, but with the industrial food chain and how it's set up less work means farmers get more rest and it adds on.Even though the industrial food chain does allow us to buy food so cheap we might eat it times a day,it depends on the people buying not who is providing who ever abuses the industrial food chain  has there own problems to deal with.

Dr.Gil:Risks vs. Benefits

Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain?why or why not?
I believe that the risks outweigh the benefits because the farmers of America are raising cattle with the food that they are not made to eat. This can also cause the people of America to become obese because of all the things that are put in the cattle. The text states "the feedlots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria. Some of these bacteria are finding their way into our food"(pg.49). This helps me understand that the cattle being raised are actually growing bacteria that can harm us when we consume it. The text also states"seventeen percent of kids age six through nineteen are obese"(pg.76). This helps me understand that the food being made is actually a harm to Americans who eat it because it causes them to be obese which means they have health problems because of what is in the food. So I believe that the risk outweighed the benefits because it causes a problem to our health.

Dr.Contreras: Industrial Food chain Reflection

Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not?

The risks outweight the benefits of the Industrial food chain by a lot. The Industrial food chain risks the environment and the people in that environment. The text states "Some of it turns into nitrous oxide, a gas that increases global warming." This qoute shows how with the things that the industrial food chain does to produce food is harming the environment. The text states "the feedlots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria. Some of these bacteria are finding their way into our food." This qoute is telling me that with the system of the Industrial food chain bactaria that are deadly can end up in the food that we (humans) consume. The text states "Genetically modified corn seed... Promises even higher yields than hybrid seed." This quote is telling me the things that the Industrial food chain is doing to the plants just so that they can produce more cornThis is why the risks overweight the benefits. The benefits are mainly about greater food production, which is not as important as the health of the people and the environment.

Dr. Naraidoo: Industrial food chain

The risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain because it's highly dangerous and its un-natural. As shown in omnivores dilemma, "The feedlots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria..." This is very dangerous to humans when we eat the meat that comes from these cows. Also shown in omnivores dilemma, "But in CAFO'S they're forced to eat corn..." Cows are originally supposed to eat grass and not corn this makes the industrial food chain un-natural. Overall the industrial food chain is more of a risk becomes of its dangerous.

Dr. Rodriguez: Risks vs. Benefits

Do the risks out weigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not?

The risk of the Industrial food chain do out weigh the benefits because there might be a strong point that the industrial food chain is beneficial but the fact is that there are so much more evidence that are stronger and that show why this food chain is hazardous. The text states, "Eating meat used to be a special occasion inost American homes. Thanks to CAFOs, meat is now so cheap that many of us eat it three times a day.(49) The author introduces the topic that meat became so affordable that many Americans are now able to buy it every day and eat it when they want. On the opposition it states, "But the wastes from CAFOs is a huge source of very toxic pollution. Tons of animal manure are produced with on good way of disposing of it. The feed lots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria. Some of these bacteria are finding their way into our food." This evidence provides a very good reason as to why not buy industrial food and why the prices are so low for us to ignore the problem and buy. In chapter 5 it is stated that cows are feed three times a day they are getting sufficient food. The author  states this in order to help under stand that cows are getting enough nutrition at the feed lots.  According to pages 54-55 it states several times that's  Industries pump drugs corn (that are not in the animals diet) liquefied fat, protein supplements, and brown goop of molasses and urea (urea contains nitrogen) just to speed up the process of natural orders of growth and development of the livestock. This over powers all beneficial  comments of the industrial food chain and explain what we are truly eating every day that can and will harm the environment and us.
Dr.Arias

The risks of the Industrial food chain do outweigh the benefits because with these risks there can come negative outcomes. For example "The feedlots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria. Some of these bacteria are finding their way into our food". In this quote, It states "for new and deadly bacteria" these bacteria can come into our food and potentially kill someone. Another example is " Hybrid corn eats up alot of nitrogen...some of it turns into nitrous oxide a gas that increase global warning". In this quote, It states how hybrid corn  may be dangerous for us increasing global warning.

Dr. Paulino: Industrial food chain reflection

Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain?

I believe that the risks do outweigh the benefits because there are more risks in the industrial food chain than benefits. For example, the new way that farmers started to raise cattle; in the book it states," Farmers gave up raising cattle because, as strange as it might seem, it costs a farmer more to grow feed corn than it costs a CAFO to buy it...Thanks to CAFOs, meat is now so cheap that many of us eat it three times a day,"( pg. 49). This is the benefit of raising cattle on CAFOs, the meat is cheaper and farmers get to spend less money. In the text it also states," But the waste from CAFOs is a huge source of very toxic pollution...The feedlots are also breeding grounds for new and deadly bacteria,"( pg.49). This is the risks of raising cattle on CAFOs, it causes a toxic pollution and in the book it also says that in CAFOs, cattle are forced to eat corn which isn't healthy for them because they are used to eating grass. There are more benefits and risks, such as the one I discussed, but these risks are harming us and our environment, which is not good just to not spend more money or grow more food.

Dr. Uwawuike: Industrial Food Chain

Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not?

The risks definitely outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain because the process of this specific food is negative and then the outcome is partially also negative. It is stated in the text "Now Wallerstein and McDonald's had figured out a way to make them feel okay about eating more...It's given us cheap corn sweeteners and hundreds of extra calories a day." It is also stated in the text "HFCS was so cheap that Pepsi and Coke could have cut the price of each bottle they sold...Seventeen percent of kids age six through nineteen are obese." These two quotes show that although there are some positives in the industrial food chain, it later on turns into a negative outcome. Not only is the future outcome negative but so is the whole entire process. Therefore, the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain.

Dr.Vazquez

“Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not? I think that the benefits out weigh the risks because to feed the cows its cheaper and theres more of the food to feed more cows. The text states "every hour of every day a tractor trailer pulls up to the loading dock to deliver another fifty tons of corn". This shows how the corn was easy to get and how so many comes in. The text states "genetically modified corn seed promies even higher yields than hybrid seeds". This qoute also shows how the corn was easy to get.

Dr.Kone

“Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not? Use at least two pieces of evidence to support your response.

Yes,the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain. Industrial food chains can have risks .Animal cruelty has to do with this also, for example the author claims cows  are forced to eat corn while they were evolved to eat grass and help it reproduce.CAFO's cow manure are a huge source of toxic pollution.Unlike natural cattles who use manure as fertilizer and cows live on parries to eat grass.

Dr.Zahzam Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain?

Write a blogger answering the following question: “Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain? Why or why not? Use at least two pieces of evidence to support your response.”

I would say yes because some people  would think that  its okay to have corn in their meat and have cows eating the corn but it really isn't its bad because it has an negative effect on both the cow themselves and also on us humans because it could be bad for our health and be bad for the cows too because they are used to eating grass and its an negative effect because in the text it states " They believe  that GMOs are a reckless experiment with the natural order of things" (pg 25) This quote shoes how its an negative in the food chain because that shows how its an negative and its reckless . The text also states " When food is abundant and cheap , people will eat more of it "This quote shows how seen its cheap more people are going to eat it more and then thats going to cause more people to get diabetes. But even though we have these fat food it's still cheap and people that don't have enough money can actually buy it .

Dr.Gomez:Benefits&Risks

Risks outweigh the benefits of the industrial food chain, by how there are more risks in the industrial food chain then how many there are of benefits. In the industrial food chain, it talks about how CAFO animal/cow manure, pollutes the air and can be very toxic to us. It also talks about how there now is bacteria growing in the cow manure and bacteria finding its way from the animal manure to our foods. There aren't really any good benefits in the industrial food chain, but it sure does have a lot of down sides.

Breakfast: Cereal;Reese's Puff

Lunch: Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Dr.Lissade: Industrial Food Chain

The benefits and risks when using industrial food chain is one risk is many kids are having obesity from most of the food they eat. And most of the food is made with corn. But some benefits are cause companies are getting paid more. The text states" So food companies have been very successful at getting us to pay more for the same food". This shows that many companies are getting a lot of money for selling their foods. Also it states " Three of every five Americans are overweight , one of every five is obses." This shows how kids are obses cause what they eat.

Dr.Dones Industrial food chain

The industrial food chain supplies us with most of the food we have today. But there are many positive and negative things about this food chain. In the book Pollan says most people'sdiet consists of many fatty foods because it is cheaper. This means that people look towards this food because it saves them money and don't see it as unhealthy. But there is also a positive side to this. The book says that the foods are cheaper for people to buy it which means they could buy more.

Dr. Contreras: Industrial Food Chain

When it comes down to he Industrial food chain there are some risks and benefits. Some of the risks of the Industrial food chain is that with all te food that is produce people buy more food than what they actually need. So they end up waisting this food. Not even so much waist because the more food people see the more they eat, causing ''Three of every five americans to be overweight; one of five is obese.'' Being overweight or obese can cause many health problems like ''Diabetes can mean blindness, amputation, and early death.'' These are some of the risks that the Industrial food chain can cause. But the industrial food chain is not all bad, it can have its benefits like giving people enough calories. The text states "The average person needs about 2,000 calories a day..." With all the food that the industrial food chain is created the people can eat 2000 calories and a lot more if they want. These is how the Industrial food chain benefits people. This shows how the Industrial food chain can do more than just risk peoples lifes it can also same them.

Dr.simplice: industrial food chain

The benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain is that one benefit being that we have more food that's cheaper however obesity can take place being a risk .It states in the text" Three of every five Americans are overweight; one of every five is obese. Among kids it's just as bad. Seventy percent of kids ages six through nineteen are obese..."this shows one risk of industrail food.It also states " It is actually cheaper to eat high-calorie, fatty, processed foods than whole foods. this tells me a good thing about industrial food that foods being cheaper are bought more often.

Dr.Gonzalez-Industrial food chain

Breakfast-Eggs and sausage
Lunch- sandwich
Dinner-Beef with rice

There are a lot of reasons why industrial food chain is bad. It can cause diabetes and obesity. A more positive idea is that it led to more food in America. In the text It says 'Three of every five Americans are overweight; one of every five is obese'. This is not a good benefit of the industrial food chain. This can impact the human race and cause a huge change to our race and make almost everyone obese. This can affect many children who are just born and cause them to be born unhealthy.

Dr.MuΓ±oz Industrial food chain

In this chapter we learned about the industrial system in our diets. I think that their is both good and bad things from this. One example is that cafo has made meat really cheap so everyone can afford it.This is a good thing since now everyone can eat meat. However There also bad things as the poop pollutes the air and area not only this but bacteria produces and then cattle sleep in their own poop. This is a negative about the industrial system. πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ‘✌πŸ‘Œ

Dr.Naraidoo: Industrial food chain

The benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain is one benefit being that we have more food that's cheaper however obesity can take place being a risk. As stated in "omnivores dilemma", on page 82"Huge amounts of sweets and fat fool our instincts and we wind up eating much more than we should." In the industrial food chain we have that negative of eating so much because we have a lot of food. But there's a benefit that isn't all that good which is the food being cheap but it's unhealthy. On page 83 "the government says it wants you to eat healthy then it makes sure that the cheapest calories in the supermarket are the unhealthiest." Although the foods maybe be cheap it's not healthy for us to eat.

Dr.Kone

Industrial food chains can have risks and benefits.Animal cruelty has to do with this also, for example the author claims cows  are forced to eat corn while they were evolved to eat grass and help it reproduce.CAFO's cow manure are a huge source of toxic pollution.Unlike natural cattles who use manure as fertilizer and cows live on parries to eat grass.Benefits of industrial food chains are ,eating meat used to be a special occasion in most American homes .Thanks to CAFO's meat is now cheap that many people eat it three times a day .

Dr.cox Industrial Food chain

The industrial food chain has multiple positives and negatives. Pollan's states how the industrial food chain dosent really care about the health of people it  feeds. Most kids and even adults diet consist of fatty foods mainly because it's cheaper to buy. These foods aren't called fatty foods for no reason at the rate most Americans consume food some were at risk of type 2 diabetes.Besides these negatives, farms can actually get there job done in half the time but still get the same pay. Both of these show the positive and negatives of the industrial food chain

Dr. Rodriguez: Industrial Food Chain pg 76-82

What are the benefits and risks of using Industrial food chain?

There are several benefits and various risks on industrial food chain but one of the main concerns of the risk is obesity and type 2 diabetes, but a much more positive turn was a surplus of food across America. The text states, "Three of every five Americans are overweight; one of every five is obese. Among kids it's just as bad. Seventy percent of kids ages six through nineteen are obese... To put it simply Americans are getting fatter and it's killing us."(76) Besides this on pg 76, "...Type 2 diabetes since it now occurs so frequently in Childers and the Centers for Disease Control estimates that one in three Americans children born in 2000 will develop it." These two pieces of evidence give in detail the high possibility of future generations getting Type 2 diabetes and becoming obese that can impact  the human race. According to the text pgs 76-82 because o the industrial food chain humans are able to acquire food in large quantities and for a cheaper price cheaper, besides this it fully satisfies our sweet tooth and the amount of food we can sustain. This sets a positive impact of the industrial food chain of America and in your own neighborhood on a economic price for a satisfying portion.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘:Industrial Food Chain

"What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?

In the text "Omnivore's Dilemma" Micheal pollan introduces benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain. One benefit of using the industrial food chain is that people could buy more for less. In the text it states, "It is actually cheaper to eat high-calorie, fatty, processed foods than whole foods. This tells me that people who could buy a lot of food to eat just for less money and be satisfied. This is also another good benefit for the people who could barley afford some thing to eat. But there is a reason to why these cheap food are cheap and that is the risk of using the industrial food chain. In the text it states, "17% of kids age six through nineteen are obese. This is a giant public health problem, costing the health care system an estimated $90 billion a year".  This tells me that even though there is a benefit using the industrial food chain, what people don't know is that the same benefit is risking their lives. Because this obese situation could lead to diabetics and diabeties have many factors including life span, blindness, and more.

Dr.Cox Cattle

Pollan's reason for including steer 534,was to bring up to attention that cattle way of being raised has completely been changed because of today's food industry and basically how fast and demanding it works.Cattle are no longer raised with care and in small numbers,They are raises in small compacted places with over 100 cattle inside of it.

Dr.Cox Fertilizer

When farmers use nitrogen rich soil, they intend on making the plants "better" is what you can say.But in this process or any process like so,there isn't really 100 percent good. That rich nitrogen soil isn't always aborted by Naylor plants and when this happens it actually can evaporate into air and create acid rain. Not only that it can actually create global warming with this gas.Farmers are risking the environment just to grow corn faster

Dr.Cox Corn

The author discusses the fact that cross breeding corn  has both a very good output but it also carries some negatives along side it.It allows corn to be built to withstand anything, well mostly anything it will come in contact with and allows it fight it off.Exterme temperatures can't even affect the corn when it's traveling somewhere,or most extreme conditions in general really. But doing all this actually doesn't always mean these genetics will carry on through out other of the later "generations" of corn. The process will actually have to be repeated which isn't so easy and will cost money

Topic: Industrial Food Chain
Dr.Arias

In the Industrial Food Chain, there are many benefits and risks while in the process.
A benefit in the Industrial food chain is that most of our foods come from this chain. The industrial food chain, supplies most of our food from the supermarket. A risk in the Industrial food chain is that it may not be healthy for us. Accoording to Pollan, Three for every five Americans are overweight, This is because of this type of food chain.

Dr.Gil:Industrial Food Chain

What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?
The benefits to the industrial food chain is that farmers are making a lot more food for a lot less. The farmers are raising cattle in places which are too small for them because there are over 3000 cattle in one place. But the risk is that most of the kids that eat the food made there are becoming obese. The text states"it is actually cheaper to eat high-calorie,fatty,processed foods than whole foods." This helps me understand that the food made in industrial food chains are actually cheaper which make people eat them because they don't cost as much money and when they eat them they eat all the chemicals that are used in making the food like the cows that are forced to eat corn even if it's a problem to their health and ours when we consume them.

Question

"What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain? The benefits of using a industrial food chain is that everything is basically cheaper. The text states "why? Because HFCS was a few cents cheaper than sugar and consumers couldn't taste the difference". That quote shows an example of how these companies don't care and how just because it's cheaper they will use it. The risks are that if more people find out they might stop buying the food and then they go out of business

Dr. Uwawuike: Industrial Food Chain

What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?

The author of the text shows the benefits and risks of the industrial food chain. The benefit is that people eat more for less and that things are cheaper. However, the risks are that the cheap sugar contain too much calories that aren't good for them and causes them to be fat. It is stated in the text "...the calories end up being stored away in fat cells in our body...Seventeen percent of kids age six through nineteen are obese." This quote shows the risks of the industrial food chain, it puts a lot of unnecessary calories in our food for less, that is then stored as fat in our bodies that causes us to become obese. The rates of obesity has increased because of this. It is also stated in the text "HFCS was so cheap that Pepsi and Coke could have cut the price of each bottle they sold...Now Wallerstein and McDonald's had figured out a way to make them feel okay about eating more." This quote shows the benefits of the industrial food chain, it made people eat more without feeling fat or greedy, it was also cheap for buyers. Therefore, the author includes the benefits and risks of the industrial food chain.

Dr. Paulino: Industrial Food Chain

What are the benefits and risks of using the industrial food chain?

The benefits of using the industrial food chain is that the workers who are making or growing the food get even more money. In the text it states," Finally Kroc gave in and approved super-sized portions, and what followed was a dramatic rise in sales,"(pg.80). Because of the idea of super sizing instead of the old fashion small soft drink the sellers, (in this case mcdonald's) more customers buy the over sized soft drinks getting them even more money. The negative things about this is that because a lot of fast foods are being sold people are eating a lot more fast food than they should and that isn't healthy. In the text it states," Huge amounts of sweets and fats fool our instincts and we wind up eating much more than we should,"(pg.82). All these calories and fats are being consumed by people and even more is being eaten than what they should be to be healthy.

The benefit and risks of using the industrial food chain is how one negative thing is how they have fast food and that is more calories and that could cause diabetes and it has an negative effect because in the text it state " Diabetes can mean blindness , amputation , and early death . " This quote shows how our food chain could have an negative effect depending on what you eat because most people eat fast food and that has an risk . But an benefit is how in the text it states " The soft drink makers could have just switched one sugar for another. That would not led us to drink more . " This quote shows how even thought we drink a lot of soda and it has a lot of calories we could now stop because of the trick they are using . This shows the benefit and the risks of using the industrial food chain .

Dr.Gomez: Industrial Food Chain

The benefits of using the Industrial Food Chain is that, with the food chain it is possible to turn corn into meat. The risks of using the Industrial food chain is using a CAFO, Extremely Toxic pollution, and Cows rolling around their Manure. In a CAFO, animals are forced to eat corn at considerable cost of their health, to the health land, and to our health. Also, when a CAFO does its businesses it turns in to toxic pollution, which can harm us and potentially kill us.

Michael pollan introduces steer 534 because it shows how cows are grown up and put into a feedlot. As shown in the book steer 534 went from a ranch to a feedlot. Where the ranch was when it was next to its mom eating grass. But then as the life of a cattle steer 534 had to go to a feedlot to be made into a "meat machine". Also shown in the book steer 534 life was miserable when it went to the feedlot because it was being made into a machine although it was a a living organism. By including steer 534 it conveys how cows are being grown up in the industrial food chain.

Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534 was to inform readers about a cow on how it was raised and the food it eats.Pollan talks about the cow for a while in the text "steer number 534 spent his first six months in these pastures alonside his mother." Also stated was"He chose from a salad bar of grasses:western wheatgrass, little bluesterm ,buffalo grass, green needlesgrass.this showshow pollans purpose was to inform us avout the cow diet and life

Dinner: I ate Chinese food for dinner a.k.a a buffet take out order today. It consisted of chicken with Lo Mein, yellow fried rice, and more.

"What was Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534? How do you know?"

Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534 was to inform readers about a cow known as steer number 534 on how it was raised and the food it eats. In the text pollan talks about how steer number 534 was born on March 13, 2001 and for 6 months it was right by his mother side. This tells me that for 6 months steer number 534 was raised by his mother. Also pollan talks about how steer number 534 mother never met his father. This tells me that steer number 534 father wasn't probably around when he was growing up. In the text the author also talks about how steer number 534 depended on grass for food and grass depended on cows for reproduction. In the text its says that cows have changed over time of years to eat grass and grass have changed over time to be eaten by cows. This tells me that both cow and grass depends on each other for survival.

Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534 was to inform the readers of the process in which the industrial market uses on its livestock just to speed up the process of growth and development. Also shows how the animals are treated in such deplorable conditions in which they are stuffed with hazardous nutrition until their last breath. The author informs us that industries pump drugs, corn (which in many cases  is not in the diet of the livestock) liquefied fat, protein supplements, liquid vitamins, a goop of molasses and urea (urea contain nitrogen) just to speed up the time taken of natural orders of growth and development just to make money. What is done in the steps taken can produce several types of disease especially when the animal is feed from its own species.

What I ate today:
Breakfast- cup of milk,a croissant
Lunch-chocolate milk,a hamburger
Dinner-tortillas with mashed potatoes&lettice
What was Pollans purpose for introducing steer 534?How do you know?
The purpose for introducing steer 534 is to show the readers how the cattle they raise are treated because they put the cattle in cramped places in which they stay in their own manure. Also Pollan tells how they bred him by artificial insemination which means they injected the males sperm into the female which means they were made for a certain purpose because the parents never met. So the author introduces steer 534 in order to show how the cattle are treated because they are selective breeding them.

In chapter 5 we got to see how and what happens to an cow before its born and what we eat and how it could affect us and have an negative change on us and how Pollan goes against it .

Dr.Gomez: Chap.5,What I ate Today

Well I really can't find a really good reason to why Pollan talks about Steer 534. But, I think the reason for this is because he saw that cow being born and in only a few months he saw it getting killed to take its meat. He also found it intresting to say that, it never got to see its dad and feels bad about it.

Breakfast: Cereal; Reese's Puffs

Lunch: Macaroni LazanΓ±a

What did I eat today?
Breakfast: 2 Pieces of ham and one slice of grilled cheese on one slice of bread. I also drank milk and juice.
Lunch: Pasta, a bread stick, and milk
Dinner: A sandwich with juice

What was Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534? How do you know?
I think that Pollan decided to introduce steer 534 so that we can get a clear example of what happens to a cow when it is born until it is slaughtered and fed to us. The text is really hard and a vivid example is a great way to clear the minds of the readers. Not only, does introducing steer 534 give us a clear example but it also strengthens his claim as a way of evidence that what he thinks is right. Pollan thinks that the industrial food chain has completely negative impacts on us, on farmers, and on animals. Introducing steer 534 allows people who disagree with him to see why they shouldn't, and to see where Pollan is coming from and how he is able to prove it. Therefore, introducing steer 534 not only gives readers a vivid example, but also helps Pollan defend his claim and makes it hard for others to disagree with him.

Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534 was to see how the cattle lives in a CAFO.

Dr. Paulino: Cattle

Today I ate:
Breakfast: nothing
Lunch: A slice of pizza

What was Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534?

The purpose of introducing steer 534 was to explain one of the lives of a cattle, just so the readers understand how cattle used to live. This cattle grew the old fashion way for six months; steer 534 was grown in a shed and ate grass like all regular cattle should have. In the book it says," Steer number 534 spent his first six months in these pastures alongside his mother..." (pg.50). In the book it also states,"He chose from a salad bar of grasses: western wheatgrass, little bluestem, buffalo grass, green needle grass,"(pg.50). This cattle did once live in a shed and at the healthy green grass, but now steer 534 has been at Poky for a few months and will never have the opportunity to eat green grass again.

Cattle

"What was Pollan's purpose for introducing steer 534? I guess pollen put that section in so people can see how heartless the people are that are making the food and he made an example of a cows life and how it was so mistreated by everyone and what cows are made for

Fertilizer: Nitrogen Rich Soil

What are farmers risking by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly?

Farmers risk a tremendous amount by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly.it was not only the farmers but the government and factories. The nitrogen fertilizers  cause pollution, health damage and slowly destroys the environment. The idea of fertilizing farmlands with bomb material came shortly after WWII due to the surplus bomb material. Scientist in the department of agriculture had the idea of spreading ammonium nitrate on farmlands as a fertilizers. This very action started the fertilizer industry and the pesticide industry that  was based on poison gases. Due to the nitrogen more fuel is wasted to produce crops the text states, "That's around seventy-five gallons of oil per Acer of corn."(32) this is like wasting 10.3 quads of fuel to produce corn yet we only receive 1.4 quads from the crop. These action can and will lead to our destruction while others think it leads us to a new era in which we prosper.

Dr.Espinal: Fertilizer

By using nitrogen to grow corn quickly it puts society at risk because it causes global warming and can hurt the people working there.

Dr.Espinal : Corn

The text talks about hybrid corn in both good and bad ways. A good reason is its immune to most diseases and a bad reason is it can't produce a offspring and u have to buy new seeds.

Dr.Maldonado Fertilizer

This part of the text talks about hoe back in day , the US government had to much nitrogen from the world war so they were thinking of putting it on the trees to help the lumber business. instead of doing that they put it in the soil that farmers were using to grow plants and the plants grew faster. this could be harmful to both the consumer and the farmer because too much of a bad thing is bad and since nitrogen is a chemical , it can harm us alot.

Dr.Maldonado Corn

This part of the text talk about how corn has spread and the history of how it spread and how helpful it has been to farmers.

Dr.Lissade: Fertilizer

Breakfast:Pancakes & bacon with coffee
Lunch: Mcchicken with fries and soda
Dinner: White rice with beans and corn

The farmers are risking by using nitrogen rich soil for corn to grow faster is that at first it was taking a lot of energy from fossil fuels and  using the hydrogen from all the gases and oils. But soon farmers didn't really produce it , they just brought it but those didn't have energy from the sun. So it's effecting other things with chemicals.

Dr.Lissade: Corn

Breakfast: Peanut butter sandwich with a glass of orange juice
Lunch: Pizza & fruit punch
Dinner: Shirmp Fried Rice & orange soda

The authors opinion of the hybrid corn is that it was good for farmers to grow at first because it double their yields. But soon it went down because the hybrid corn wasn't the same as the first generation. And now their a new way to make higher yields.

Dr.Kone

By using nitrogen to grow corn quickly farmers are risking society because nitrogen evoporates into the air which pollutes

Dr.Kone

The author says that hybrid corn is a good thing and bad thing.A reason why it's a good thing because it is immune to some diseases. This can also be a bad thing because offspring might not have inherit the same traits

Dr . Arnaud : fertilizer

In chapter 3 the book talks about how the air gets polluted because of the way people grow their crops , they use it to grow their crops faster but that's bad in both ways , for the earth and also because what they out in our food is what we eat .

Dr.Gil:Fertilizer

What are farmers risking by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly?
What farmers are risking by using the nitrogen rich soil is harming the people that work in there and increasing global warming which harms the earth. In the text it states"But what happens to the eighty pounds of man-made nitrogen that  naylors corn plants don't take up? Some of it evaporates into the air and where it creates acid rain. Some of it turns into nitrous oxide, a gas that increases global warming"(33). This helps me understand that the nitrogen rich soil they use actually harms the earth and may harm the people that work with it because of the chemicals it may contain.

Dr.Gil:Corn

What is the authors opinion on hybrid corn? What conflicting reason does he present?

The authors opinion on hybrid corn is that it's good because you can cross the corn to help it develop certain features that allow it to be able to survive which makes it easier to plant. In the text it states "For example, you might take a type of corn that resists diseases and cross it with another type of corn that produces a lot of ears. The result is a hybrid-a disease-resistant plant that produces a lot of corn"(23). This helps me understand that the hybrid corn is made in order for them to have more promising traits in order for the corn to survive. The conflicting reason that the  author provides is that not all the corns offspring is the same so they can't plant them again and have to buy new seeds every year which makes them loose some money because they have to buy new seeds every year in order to plant their crops

Dr. Zahzam Fertilizer

It talks about how the fertilizer is bad because it causes position even thought it makes the corn grow faster but it is still bad either way

Dr.Zahzam Corn

The  author talks about how  the hybrid corn is both negative and positive in their own way because it talks about how the corn is immune to diseases but it's in most thing and it's bad

Dr.Zahzam Food Thoughts

Breakfast - Creamcheese Bagel
Lunch- Fry Egg with Rice
Dinner - Salmon with salad

Corn: pages 20-25

The author seems to have the opinion that hybrid corn  is a better form to add wanted traits. The form in which this happens is by cross breeding the plant or animal in this case it's corn giving it the desired traits for the offspring and may not harm the environment or any species. A problem that arose on page 25 was a new form of giving desired traits to the plant and animals called GMO abbreviation for genetically modified organisms. The process is done in  a laboratory by adding genes from a different organism and inserting it in the corns DNA the genes can come from a bacteria or a organism. Many farmer do not want to grow any GMO crops "They believe that GMOs are a reckless experiment with the natural order of things."(page 25)

Dr.Gomez😴πŸ˜₯😧😭πŸ˜ͺ: Fertilizer

In Chapter three, Farmers are risking pollution and global warming, so they can be able to grow their crops better. Using items that could pollute the air and getting items that add to global warming/polluting the air.......
Breakfast: Coffee with Fried Cheese and Mini Croissant.
Lunch: Rice with Oxtail's, Pepsi
Dinner: Smoothie/Papaya Flavor (reference to Inside Out and Back Again).

Dr.GomezπŸ˜†πŸ˜Š☺πŸ˜₯:Hybrid Corn

The Authors Opinion on Hybrid Corn is that it's cool and thinks it's a much better
process  of dealing with farming and earning much more better yield's than what you would originally get by doing it normally. With the other type of corn, GMO's he states both sides of it by saying that it produced a ton more yields than Hybrid Corn. But, says that a lot more people didn't like that process because it took the natural in Corn, since it was a genetically modified type of seed that made it produce better yields. Then he says that most farmers preferred Hybrid Corn still.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘:Fertilizer

What are farmers risking by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly?

Farmers are risking pollution and global warming to the environment and earth by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly. In the text it states,"Some of it evaporates into air, where it creates acid rain". This tells me that when "eighty pounds of man-made nitrogen that Naylor's corn plants doesn't take up" humans are in a whole sort of trouble. Lot of things on earth just might begin to extinct. Like plants won't be able to grow, animals won't be able to eat which will then decrease their population and humans won't be able to survive. We will all die out slowly. The text also states," Some of it turns into nitrous oxide, a gas that increased global warming. The fact that farmers are risking global warming is really scary because scientists doesn't know know about 99.999999... of the universe meaning that it would be hard for scientists to find a way to protect us from global warming and eventually  if they don't find a way, well we're all just dieing simple as that.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘:Corn

What is the author’s opinion of hybrid corn? What conflicting reasoning does he present?

In the text "The Omnivore's Dilemma", the author talks about how hybrid corn was a great impact on farmers. In the text it states, " For example, you might take a type of corn that resists disease and cross it with another type of corn that produces a lot of ears. The result is a hybrid- a disease-resistant plant that produces a lot of corn". This tells me that farmers didn't have to worry about diseases that might have weakened their growth of corn because it was disease resistant and it grew a lot of corn which satisfied farmers. In the text the author introduces an conflicting reasoning about hybrid corn. The author state in the text "The plants will have all the good traits the seed company promised. But the "children" of that crop will be mixed. Some plants will be like their hybrid parents, but most will not". This tells me that the hybrid corn seed that is planted will differeranate from its parents because it wouldn't  produce as much as corn as the parents of the offspring.

Dr. Contreras: Fertilizer

when farmers use nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly they might ass well just destroy Earth.By maing nitrogen people are pollution the environment. The text states "Some of it evaporates into the air where it creates acid rain" Unless you are trying to die acid rain is not good. the text states "Some of it turns into nitrous oxide, a gas that increases global warming." We already have enough global warming as it is. Why nee more. Farmers are polluting the environment while trying to make planting their crops better.

Dr. Contreras:Corn

Hybrid corn is not always good for farmers. With hybrid corn all the seeds are going to be identical but the children of that seed would have mixed trated, so farmers would have to buy new seeds every years. The text states "The only way to make sure your plants produce the same amount of corn that they have the same yield as the original hybrid is to new seed ever year from a seed company" This quote tells me that in orer for farmers to keep their production of corn the same is by buying more seeds every year.

Dr.simplice:fertilizer

By useing nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly they cause chemicals to evaporate into the air and turn into acid rain, other turn into nitrous oxide which is a gas that increases global warming this is bad for farmers and the environment

dr.simplice topic: corn

the authors opinion of hybrid is that hybrids have there positive effect and a negative effect on corn he say that hybrids can double the prodution of corn being made. But also says that farmers cant use rhe same corn to make more so they have to buy the hybrid seeds from the conpany each year this is the conflicting reason he presented in the book.

Dr Naraidoo: fertilizer

Farmers are risking the society around them as they use nitrogen soil as fertilizers. Some of the nitrogen evaporates into th air which makes acid rain... Also relaeses a gas that contributes to global warming. This shows how the farmers by using the nitrogen soil are risking society around them problems. .... the Naylors don't drink the well water on their farm. They drink from a special faucet connected to a water filter system. This shows how by using the nitrogen soil the area around the farmers and society are affected and the area is polluted because of the farmers using the fertilizer.

Dr. Naraidoo: hybrid corn

The author in "omnivores dilemma" talks about hybrid corn that it's a good thing and a bad thing. The authors  claim about hybrid corn is that it's resistant to disease and can produce a lot of corn. On the other hand it's a bad thing because the "children" of the hybrid corn may not have the same traits as their parents. Which means the "children" corn may not have the disease resistant or surplus of corn trait. Also farmers would have to buy corn every year to make sure their corn has the right traits.

By: Dr.Arias

Because Farmers decided to use nitrogen rich soil ,they are increasing global warming.

The author's opinion about hybrid corn is that he think that its efficient but you have to spend tons of money to get new seeds for the cropping season.

Dr. Paulino: Fertilizer

What are farmers risking by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly?

Farmers are risking a lot when using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly. This is because in the book the author says that some of this nitrogen evaporates into the air, this creates acid rain. The author also says that some of the nitrogen turns into nitrous oxide, this is a gas that increases global warming. Also, the use of nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly cause the farmers not to be able to drink the water there. In the book it states, "Because of this, the Naylors don't drink the well water on their farm. When I went to pour myself a glass of water in the kitchen, Georges wife, Peggy, made sure I used a special faucet connected to water filter system,"( pg.34). Because of the nitrogen rich soil used to grow corn quickly, the Naylors had to use a special faucet to drink water and also this nitrogen can cause more global warming.

Dr. Paulino: Corn

Whats the authors opinion on hybrid corn? What conflicting reasoning does he present?

In the book "Omnivores Dilemma" the author talks about hybrid corn. The author thinks that hybrid corn is actually a good thing for the farm and farmers. Hybrid corn was a new way to grow corn, a disease-resistant plant that can produce a lot of corn. Before, farmers could only grow eight thousand corn plants i one acre, now farmers can grow thirty thousand corn plants in an acre. However, a conflict is that the first plant or crop that is planted is identical, meaning the plants will have all good traits. But the "children" of that crop wont be the same, some will be like the hybrid parents but others wont.

Dr. Uwawuike: Fertilizer

What are farmers risking by using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly?

Farmers are risking a lot of things when using nitrogen rich soil to grow corn quickly because the chemicals can evaporate into the air and turn into acid rain, other turn into nitrous oxide which is a gas that increases global warming, and much more. It is stated in the text "Some of it evaporates into the air, there it creates acid rain. Some of it turns into nitrous oxide, a gas that increases global warming." It is also stated in the text "Some of the extra fertilizers seeps down to the groundwater. Because of this, the Nayler's don't drink the well water ion the farm. When I went to pour myself a glass of water in the kitchen, George's wife, Peggy, made sure I used a special faucet connected to a water filter system." This shows what farmers are risking when they use nitrogen rich soil to grow their corn quickly, it causes the water to be poisoned, and when is evaporates it turns into acid rain.  Therefore there are many negative effects from using Nitrogen rich soil to make their corn grow quicker.

Dr. Uwawuike: Corn

What is the author’s opinion of hybrid corn? What conflicting reasoning does he present?

The way the author describes hybrid corn at first makes me think that he thinks that the new version of corn has a positive impact on how we obtain our food and what is going into our body. However, he later on contradicts his opinion by giving us examples of how hybrid corn has a negative impact. Then after that he gives us information on how the hybrid  corn is beneficial. It is stated in the text "For example, you might take a type of corn that resists disease an cross with another type of corn that produces a lot of ears. The result is a hybrid---a disease-resistant plant that produces a lot of corn." This quote shows that the author makes the readers think that a hybrid corn is beneficial to us and the environment. It is also stated in the text "The plants will have all the good traits the seed company promised. But the "children" of that crop will be mixed. Some plants will be like their hybrid parents, but most will not. The only way to make sure your plants produce the same amount of corn---that they have the same yield as the original hybrid---is the buy new seeds every year from a seed company." This quote shows how the author gives a conflicting reason, he says that they hybrid crops aren't all that beneficial because it causes farmers to waste money buying new seeds every year. The author later in the text follows this statement by saying that the hybrid crops are beneficial. Therefore, the author gives reasons that contradict most of his statements.

Breakfast- Cereal with Orange juice        Lunch - Sandwich with Coco Cola.         Dinner - Ravioli with Sprit and Goat cheese with olives.                                The central idea of pages 9-19 was how most of the things we eat are mostly made from corn and that we don't know what things are in our food and how the food its self might taste good but maybe you don't like what it may contains

Food Chain

First off The central idea that that Pollan developed on pg. 9-19 is that corn is in almost every food from soda to meat to a whole bunch  of other food. America is a country run by corn. For example if you we're to walk through a supermarket and look at the content of food CORN.

Dr. Uwawuike: Food Chain

The central idea of pages 9-19 is that most of the food we eat comes from corn. Even things that we don't expect to have corn or to be made out of corn actually is. The author states in the text "the range  of food choices is amazing. Yet if you look a little closer, you begin to discover: It's all corn." The author    discusses that even the thing that makes magazines shine is made out of corn. These two quotes show that the central idea is that most of the things that we eat are made out corn, even things that we don't expect to be made out of corn is made out of corn.

Dr.Contreras: Food chain

🌽CORN🌽

This section was literally ALL about corn.

The author talks about how corn is in  a lot of the items we buy. even if we don't realize it corn is either included in our food or was once fed to the animal we are eating, even in items that are not even related to food. The text states "Corn is in places you would never think to look. Is in the wax that coats the other vegetables in the produce section." This tells me that corn  can be everywhere.

Dr. Carty Food Chain

The central idea is that mostly everything you eat has corn in it, one way or another. For instance, in the text, pg. 10, it states that corn is fed to the pig that becomes your bacon, the batter for your chicken nuggets is made of corn flour, etc. This is an example of how corn is in nearly everything because corn pretty much is in everything used to make your food. Another way corn is in everything is that corn even makes up our cells! Corn, as stated in the text, has carbon in it, me we are carbon based beings, so technically, we're made of corn. That is the central idea developed in pages 9-19.

Dr.Estevez

The central idea of the section I read pg. 9-19 was that many things are made from corn. Their are places where you may never think might have corn in them. Like batteries and such. And if you think of it almost everything we eat that is sweet and fried is mostly just corn. Even soda has corn in it and chicken nuggets also is just corn wrapped around in corn.

Dr. Andujar : food chains

The central ideas Pollan develops are that corn is daily things we use and almost all the things we eat. In the book the author states how an American supermarket has forty-five thousand items and more than a quarter of them have corn in them. This shows how much of our food we eat have corn in them.

Dr.Espinal:Food chains

The chapter "how corn took over America" is mostly about how the variety of things a person eat is corn. Almost everything in a supermarket is corn the only thing not made from corn is fruits and vegetables.

Dr.simplice:food chain

The central idea that pollan develops is that corn is in almost everything we eat.The details he develops is that he shows example of corn in stores and in animals diets. The author states that if you read the label on any process food.also stated  is that corn feeds the chicken and the pig .this shows how corn is in the foods we eat.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘: Thoughts

The central idea that Pollan develops on pages 9-19 is that we are what we eat and what we eat is corn. People doesn't seem to know that everything they eat seems to be made out of corn and this is because its hidden behind the food product in tiny words. Human favored corn and corn favored human needs because it was able to grow as twice as any other crop and it was best adapted to the needs of human beings.

Dr Fofana:Food Chain

The central idea of page 9-19 is that corn is taking over America and its supermarkets because its in everything we eat and e background of corn like how it used to be called Maize and etc.

Dr.Lissade: Food Chains

Breakfast: Hashbrown & orange juice
Lunch: Pizza & Coke
Dinner: Mcchicken, fries & fruit punch

Pollan develop the central idea that mostly everything we ate is made of some corn. He explains how many things that we don't aspect to have corn has corn in them. We don't taste it but its in there.

Dr. Paulino: food chains

The central idea Pollan develops in pages 9-19 is that corn is mostly in everything we eat and use. In the book the author says that if you walk around a supermarket you would see that the meats, TV dinners and drinks we eat or drink are made out of corn.

Dr.Maldonado food chains

Pollan develops this idea that corn is in everything. Corn has been planted and forced into everything.   In the text it states that almost every thing  we eat and that is in then

Dr Arnaud - food chain

The central idea is that many things we eat and use in our daily life have corn even though we don't see it . " see those chicken nuggets in the freezer case . They are really corn wrapped up in more corn.." Also , " corn is in the non-dairy creamer and the chez whiz , the frozen yogurt and the TV dinner.."

Dr.Zahzam Food Chains 😏

The central idea of Pollan is how corn is in most things because in the text talks about how our floor tiles have corn our trash bags and even in daily snacks that people have like chips cereal and the text also states how when you eat chicken and drink soda there is corn in both of them and that's really weird . How could corn be in our daily snacks ? 😨

Dr. Lewis

Pollan Explains How Mostly corn is in everything consume . For example : before we eat the animals, the animals eat on the farm . Guess what they eat ? Mostly corn . Then they process our foods and put corn in it . If Your Really look closely in to everything ... We eat corn on the daily basis

Dr.MuΓ±oz and CORN

The central idea that pollen develops is that how CORRNN has taken over our country as is one of the most used things for our foods. For example corn cover more land than any other thing even us.This is a huge thing because it shows has corn has completely taken over.Another thing is than everything we eat even meat comes from CORNNNN and if its true that we are what we it then we are all CORN. So in general everything is.....C..O....R..........N!

Dr. Feliciano

The central idea is that corn is in everything that we eat and drink and even in materials that we make. The text states "see those chicken nuggets in the freezer case ? They are really corn wrapped up in more corn".

Dr.Gomez: Food Chain

Well my table didn't really read to one of those pages, but from my knowledge of this is that pollen could come from flower and maybe the corn that is in our food is almost like pollen or could be turned in to pollen somehow.

Dr.MuΓ±oz third thoughts

Thursday- for breakfast I ate Hershey's w/Arizona and for lunch fries and chicken.

Dr. Gomez: Thoughts; What I Ate for Dinner

What I had for Dinner was..........,

Dinner: Corn Flakes.......

By the way I wrote what Omnivores dilemma means a few post ago.

Dr.MuΓ±oz second thoughts

Wednesday- I ate a peanut butter jelly sand which and for lunch rice with beans

Dr. Andujar πŸ˜‹πŸ˜Ž : food chain

Breakfast - I ate ham and cheese sandwich with coffee
Lunch - I ate fries
Dinner - I ate fritos with chuleta

Well omnivores mean you eat both plants and meat but I'm not sure what its trying to say. My course was in the industrial food chain 😬.

Dr.Contreras

Today I ate
Fruit loops
Hershey's
Rice with fryed egg
Salad (a lot)
Water
Apple juice
Cheese
Pizza
Soda

I ate a lot of things

I don't really know what the omnivores dilemma means.I read the pages but still.I think its like since we are omnivores than we have a dificulty in choosing which food is good for us. I Would say that we have Industrial food chain. We get our food from a market that uses chemicals to have the crops grow better and so that they wouldn't go bad before it gets to our plate

Dr. Otomo: Food Chains

Dr.Naraidoo

Breakfast: nothing
Lunch: some type of chicken with corn and corn chips.
Dinner I guess: a sandwich with soda

The meaning of omnivores dilemma is that us humans don't know what's good or not good to eat so we just eat anything that looks good. I picked local sustainable because I find that's the most natural way of growing food.

Dr.Maldonado FOOD

Breakfast: Coffee
Lunch: french fries with ketchup
         & milk
Dinner: spaghetti and meatballs
            takis & grape juice

I think that the author means that since us humans are omnivores we can eat almost anthing but we may not know what is good for use and what isnt. My food chain would fit into Local sustainable.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘:Thoughts 😊

Breakfast- For breakfast today, I ate a bagel that contained raisin in it with strawberry cream cheese and a pint of grape juice.

Lunch: For lunch I ate chicken and a patty with fries and a banana.

Dinner: For dinner I ate something not common to some of you, but it was called jollof rice and chicken with a vimto soda.

I think Omnivore"s Dilemma mean that we humans often eat what tastes good whether it comes from plants or other animals and other type of food. We don't care to know where our food come from. So that's why I think Omnivore's Dilemma means a difficult situation we humans are in either for choosing the way we eat.

I really don't understand which of the four food chain the course I chose fits into. I seen to not get the sense of the text that will help me in answering questions about it.

Dr.Lissade: Food Chains

Breakfast- Bacon, egg & Chesse sandwich with apple juice
Lunch- Chop Chesse with orange soda
Dinner- Pork chops , yellow rice & salad & a can coke.

I don't really know the meaning of the title , I don't understand. And I think my course fit into the Local Sustainable food chain.

Dr.Arias Thoughts

What I Ate Today

Breakfast:
Toasted Bread with peanut butter
And a cup of water

Lunch:
Fries and chips

After-School:
Pizza

The meaning of the title "Omnivore's Dilemma" is that we, humans as omnivores don't really pay attention to what we eat because we can anything we want unless its harmful for our health.

I didnt chose a course meal because I didn't really like the food.

dr.simplice:first thought

breakfeast-pancakes
lunch-french fries and unknow meat
Dinner-

The meaning of  omnivore dilemma is not having the instict like animals to know wjat foods are good for and what food are not good.My chossen course fitted in the local sustainable food chain.

Dr.Gil: what I ate

What I ate today:
Breakfast- a cup of milk, sweet bread
Lunch- chocolate milk, French fries
Dinner- white rice with beans and a soda

Dr.Gil: What does the title "the omnivores dilemma" mean?

The title "the omnivores dilemma" means that us human beings are able to eat anything that we can. But this causes us  to not pay attention to what we eat or what it can do to us. Like the chemicals that are used to actually make the food that we put in our mouth. In the story it states " food came from the supermarket and as long as it tasted good I ate it"(pg.1). This means that most humans really don't care about what their food contain because as long as it's eatable or has a good taste then they will eat it even if it's unhealthy.

The category that my course would fall upon would be local sustainable because the chicken and the corn that are included are able to be produced at a local farm that raises chickens and crops.

Dr Arnaud : hw

Today for breakfast I ate : a sand which with orange juice .
Today for dinner I ate : rice and beans with salad

The title "Omnivores Dilemma " means that us human eat anything meaning we eat whatever we would think taste good but that isn't actually good for us .

Dr. Uwawuike: Which of the four food chains did your chosen course fit into?

The meaning of the title "Omnivore's Dilemma" means an issue faced by an omnivore. Since omnivores can eat any food it is hard for an omnivore to know what to eat and what is best fit for their health.

Which of the four food chains did your chosen course fit into?
The course that I chose fits into the Local Sustainable

What does the title " The Omnivores Dilemma " mean?

The title " The Omnivores Dilemma" was created because us humans are omnivores meaning that we eat just about anything. Because we are omnivores, we don't really know which foods are good and which foods aren't. And thats the problem, in the book it says " we can eat anything, but how do we know what to eat?"( pg.4).This is what the title "the omnivores dilemma" means.

I think that my course fits into the industrial or local sustainable food chain. I say this because my course had chicken and in the local sustainable food chain the farmers raise animals thee and maybe the chicken is part of that. But for the salad and sweet corn it can be in the industrial food chain because it says, in the field a single crop is grown such as corn...

Dr. Gomez: Third Thought; What I ate Today

So what I had Today was.......

Breakfast: Nothing........ :(

Lunch: Burger with French Fries, Bread and Milk

Omnivores Dilemma, The Meaning of this book is almost like a step by step process of how the author experienced eating food the way we do, what I mean by that is how we humans only eat something as long as taste good. This book also shows us how the food we eat is made and whether or not its good or bad.

The food chain that fits our course is I guess, Chicken.....

Dr.Espinal

Today at lunch i ate

Dr Gomez: Second Thought:What I ate for Dinner

What I ate for dinner is yet another thing you weren't expecting;

Dinner: I had Arroz Con Leche, which is a Spanish dessert, in English it is known as Rice with Milk. If you want more to know more about it, search up Arroz Con Leche on Google Images.

Dr.DialloπŸ‘©πŸ’™πŸ₯πŸš‘: First Thoughts πŸ˜•

Breakfast: For breakfast today I ate a cheese sandwich and 1 pancake and I drank a apple juice box. It was light and too me it was good because I felt like o didn't eat a lot and I was balancing myself.

Lunch: I ate 2 chicken breast with a side of breadstick, 2 apples and a chocolate milk. It was really good.

Dinner: I ate Chinese food. It was variety of different food in one plate. It made me full and it was delicious.

What was your reaction to the class we had today?

I never expected to have a food lab in language and literature class. I always thought we just do work based on reading and writing. But I would like to say that I really enjoy trying something different in today class because I got to know how some food that we call delicious is not always good and healthy if you find out what it is made out of. But overall today class was very interesting and I got to eat yummy snacks πŸ˜‚πŸ‘.

Second thought

What I have eaten so far
Dinner: White Rice Broccoli Chicken

Snack: Chips Ahoy Chewy

Chips Ahoy Chewy: unbleached enriched flour, (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin monohydrate (vitamin b2), folic acid) semisweet chocolate chip (sugar chocolate, cocoa butter, dextrose, soy lecithin, milk), Palm oil, high fructose corn syrup, sugar dextrose, cornstarch, salt, baking soda, molasses, caramel color, natural and artificial flavor

Dr.Kone

What I ate today
Breakfast-chocolate chip muffin
Lunch-Chicken Breast and Bread stick

Today in class the chicken nuggets weren't that bad until I saw how they were made they were cold the carrots were watery and Doritos tasted like Doritos

Dr. Gomez:First Thought; What I Ate Today

So today I had some weird food, some things you probably wouldn't expect;

Breakfast: Arizona, Watermelon flavor

Lunch: Chili with some Noodles on the side......

What I learned today is how to use our senses of taste to try and find out what ingredients are used to make up a certain object. Lets take the Chicken Nuggets for example we tasted the chicken nuggets and thought they were made up of the Chicken and Wheat. But, instead it was made of some  sort of reddish meat that came from  the chicken. And as for the so called "Wheat" it turned out to be bread crumbs put all over the chicken.

Dr.Estevez: First Thoughts.

So today I ate:
Breakfast: For breakfast I ate some cereal which was Fruit Loops
Lunch: I ate breadsticks and chili with chocolate milk.

My first impression on the lesson today was that I was excited that I got to use the IPads. The problem I had was to use this huge tablet and to log in and accept the invitation that you send me on my gmail account. At the end I had no work on the tablet done.

Dr. Fofana: first thoughts

What I ate today:
Breakfast- i ate a ham and cheese sandwich
Lunch-i ate chicken with a bread stick with some Chipotle

My first thoughts about the work today was it was sort of hard on the tablet because i couldn't log in but on a computer its really easy.and its really interesting because you can say the way people eat and see if they are really trying to stay healthy or something and compare how people eat to somebody on the other side of the world who may not have the same benefits.

Dr.Cox First thoughts

Breakfast: Carmel FrappΓ©
Lunch:Chicken breast and Breadsticks

Dr.Gonzalez-first thoughts

Breakfast-This morning I ate a bacon egg and cheese with some orange juice

Lunch-I didn't eat nothing a all for lunch

My thoughts on today lesson wasn't really anything new because I already new how chicken nuggets were made.

Dr. Uwawuike: First Thoughts

What I ate today:
Breakfast: Pancakes, one carton of milk, and a pint of Apple juice
Lunch: Chicken(not really sure if it is real chicken), a bread stick, and a carton of milkπŸ˜€
Dinner: Rice with Chicken
What was your reaction to the class we had today?

I thought today's class was kind of awkward because I never thought that we would ever have a class about food in Language and Literature. However, I thought today's lesson was a good experience and I liked the hands on experience as well.

Dr.Gil:First thoughts

What I ate today:
Breakfast-A muffin, a cup of milk
Lunch- bread,chocolate milk

I usually don't check the label on what the food I'm eating contains but I'm starting to see that I should because I don't know what I am putting into my body even if it's junk food which I like because it might not be healthy. Even though I really like sweets it might not be the best thing because of all the sugar it contains. So from watching the video in class and what you can do with all that left over meat then it makes me want to see what the food I eat contains so that I can know I'm not eating something I don't want in my body.

Dr.Zahzam😁 First Thoughts

What I ate today :
 Breakfast-I ate Cereal with orange
Lunch -Then for lunch I ate ChickenπŸ— with breadsticks and chocolate milk

Dr.Contreras First thoughts❤️

So far today I have ate/drank
Malta
Frute roll up
Bread🍞
Hershey's 🍫
Orange🍊
WaterπŸ’§
Doritos
Carrots
Chicken nuggets

So today I've learned how you make chicken nuggets.I don't feel like eating chicken nuggets now that I know that they blend the the meat with the bones and everything with the skin. Which I personally think it's disgusting. Makes me think about how I bought 50 piece chicken nuggets on sunday

Dr.Paulino: first thoughts

What I ate today:

Today for breakfast I didn't eat anything.

For lunch I ate an apple.

After school I ate:

  • Churros
  • A bag of chips

My thoughts on todays lesson was disgusted because the foods that most people eat aren't made out of the real meat of an animal, but left over parts of the animal. Like chicken nuggets, I ate chicken nuggets before and after seeing how its made I am never going to eat another chicken nugget again.

Dr.simplice:first thoughts

What I ate today:
Breakfast-  bacon egg and cheese on a roll with watermelon Arizona
Lunch- bread stick and chicken breast
Dinner

My reaction to today's class was surprised to find out how chicken nuggets were made I eat what I have tasted before. Whatever comes to my head is what I decide to eat or what I am in the mood for.

Dr.Maldonado: First thoughts

What I ate today
1) coffee with sugar ☕️
2)toast 🍞
3)bread &milk

Reactions
Today's lesson was fun because we got to use the iPads!
I don't like typing on the iPads cause like it is really big and I have tiny hands to be honest. I really want to know what is in the food I am eating because today  when you  were telling us what was is in a chicken nugget I really felt discussed like I wanted to throw up. I thought that chicken nuggets were made from chicken breast but I guess not.

Dr. Feliciano

I ate bread today at lunch. It was kind of the best thing they had.  Today I learned that some foods are not as goodas you think they are

Dr Rosario : First thoughts

I eat a boiled egg this morning with a piece of bread and orange juice and for lunch i eat a whole weat bread with american cheese and chocolate milk

From what i learned today in class i feel like i eat somethings that are supposedly "healthy" but in reality they are compose of other chemicals or artificial flavors which are bad for our bodies

My thoughts on today's lesson was weird and nasty because I found out that Nuggets was made of left over meat from the chickens body.Like ewww. Now I'm thinking about what other food maybe is made of left over animal meat. But it still taste good πŸ’ͺ

Dr.Gomez

Breakfast-Arizona Watermelon,   Lunch-Chili with Noodles..........,      Dinner-

Dr. Otomo: First Thoughts

What I ate today:
Breakfast- 1 cup of 2% milk, 1 strawberry yogurt
Lunch- Spaghetti with tomato sauce, 2 cartons of white milk
Dinner-

When I eat, usually I don't have a lot of time to think about it. If it looks good, I'll get it at the grocery store or at whatever restaurant I happen to stop by. What I eat is determined by what's around where I live or what's on the way home.

It scares me to think about the things I'm not eating. The fact that chlorine, which is a chemical in pools, is in my body is gross. I wonder how chemicals like that affect me long term. How many times have I actually read the labels of food? I don't even know. Maybe I should start paying attention to it more. I think I would have to have a plan or even a schedule for what I eat and when I'd eat it.
