The authors opinion on hybrid corn is that it's good because you can cross the corn to help it develop certain features that allow it to be able to survive which makes it easier to plant. In the text it states "For example, you might take a type of corn that resists diseases and cross it with another type of corn that produces a lot of ears. The result is a hybrid-a disease-resistant plant that produces a lot of corn"(23). This helps me understand that the hybrid corn is made in order for them to have more promising traits in order for the corn to survive. The conflicting reason that the author provides is that not all the corns offspring is the same so they can't plant them again and have to buy new seeds every year which makes them loose some money because they have to buy new seeds every year in order to plant their crops
