The purpose for introducing steer 534 is to show the readers how the cattle they raise are treated because they put the cattle in cramped places in which they stay in their own manure. Also Pollan tells how they bred him by artificial insemination which means they injected the males sperm into the female which means they were made for a certain purpose because the parents never met. So the author introduces steer 534 in order to show how the cattle are treated because they are selective breeding them.

ReplyDeleteI would like to agree with you Dr.Gil because you and I both developed the same idea of how pollan's purpose for introducing steer number 534 was to explain to readers how cows were raised. When you say " selective breeding " is that a inference you're making based on what you read? But therefore I argee with your claim and the connections you use to support your claim.
