Dr. Contreras: Local Substanable🌴
In this case the risks do not overweigh the benefits. Local Sustainable food chain is more like a help to the environment than a harm. The text states "Give them twenty-four hours to eat the grass and fertilize it with their droppings." This quote shows that the chickens in the local sustainable farm are helping the soil. The text also states "Joel says the chickens get about 20 percent of their diet from the fresh grass, worms, grasshoppers, and crickets they find." This is a benefit because the chickens are meant to eat grass they have adapted to do so, but in the industrial , and industrial organic farms chickens are force to eat corn. Some people do want to by food from a local sustainable farm but they can't. The text states " Still, whatever the reason, organic and beyond organic food does cost more at the cast register. That is going to make it hard for some people to afford it." This shows that a risks of buying local sustainable food is that it cost more. The main risks of buying beyond organic food is that it can hurt your pocket, but besides that it really helps the environment by making the soil better while they are growing and raising their food.
