The risks outweigh the benefits of the local sustainable food chain because most farmers aren't really being fair or treating the chickens right. The text states " The chicken manure fertilizer the grass, supplying all the nitrogen it needs." (163) This shows how the chickens are helping the lands of the farms with the food they grow that we humans eat. A risk is that some chickens aren't picked out gently by the farmers. The text states " To me, the way he'd grabbed and flipped the birds seemed pretty rough." This shows that farmers aren't really being fair to the chickens at all. If they don't treat it well, they won't be able to live longer and help out the farmers land with the crops.
