Do the risks outweigh the benefits of the local sustainable food chain?
I think the benefits outweigh the risks of the local sustained food chain because the benefits is proven to be more better and useful than the risk. In the text "Omnivore's Dilemma" Micheal Pollan states, "The chicken manure fertilizes the grass supplying it all the nitrogen it needs". This piece of detail confirms with my ideas because it elaborates on how the local sustained food chain is helping the environment by the chickens raised in the local sustainable food chain letting the grass to depend on them to live and reproduce and grow without any harm or just naturally. The text also states, "This kills any bacteria and after a few weeks the rich, cakey compost is ready to be spread on the fields". This tells me that during the process of the local sustainable food chain, the pigs that are also raised from there also help the environment by killing bacteria which decreases pollution to the environment which allows the environment to be more clean and a healthy place for us to live. The author talks about how the local sustainable food is expensive. This is a risks but not so much of a risk that does any harm to us humans or the environment. Not affording the food can lead to some other conflicts by the local sustainable food not being bought by customers because it's too expensive which will cause this food chain to be driven out of business. But people don't buy because it helps the environment but they buy it because it tastes good and takes a short amount of time to reach them and they know where their food is coming from.
